چکیده

In this paper, 24 three-dimensional (3D) vocal-tract (VT) shapes extracted from MRI data are used to derive a parametric model for the vocal-tract. The method is as follows: rst, each 3D VT shape is sampled using a semi-cylindrical grid whose position is determined by reference points based on VT anatomy. After that, the VT projections onto each plane of the grid are represented by their two main components obtained via principal component analysis (PCA). PCA is once again used to parametrize the sequences of coe cients that represent the sections along the tract. It was veri ed that the rst four components can explain about 90% of the total variance of the observed shapes. Following this procedure, 3D VT shapes are approximated by linear combinations of four 3D basis functions. Finally, it is shown that the four parameters of the model can be estimated from VT midsagittal pro les.

A Segmentation and Analysis Method for MRI Data of the Human Vocal Tract

In this paper a method for three-dimensional modeling of the human vocal tract based on T1-weighted MRI data sets is introduced. This includes the reconstruction of the vocal tract shape and the computation of the vocal tract midline. Reconstruction of the vocal tract shape is realized by three-dimensional region growing within the vocal tract after teeth phantoms are matched into the MRI data ...

Estimation of vocal tract area function for Mandarin vowel sequences using MRI

To fully explore the dynamic properties of speech production and investigate the relation between vocal tract geometry and speech acoustics, estimation of vocal tract area functions from measurements of the sagittal plane is an important step. In this study, we investigated the relation between the measurements on two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) MRI data and used an alpha-beta m...

Three-dimensional Modeling of Tongue during Speech Using Mri Data

The tongue is the most important and dynamic articulator for speech formation, because of its anatomic aspects (particularly, the large volume of this muscular organ comparatively to the surrounding organs of the vocal tract) and also due to the wide range of movements and flexibility that are involved. In speech communication research, a variety of techniques have been used for measuring the t...

Artisynth: an extensible, cross-platform 3d articulatory speech synthesizer

We describe our progress on the construction of a combined 3D face and vocal tract simulator for articulatory speech synthesis called ArtiSynth. The architecture provides six main modules: (1) a simulator engine and synthesis framework, (2) a two and three-dimensional model development component, (3) a numerics engine, (4) a graphical renderer, (5) an audio synthesis engine and (6) a graphical ...

Modeling of a speech production system based on MRI measurement of three-dimensional vocal tract shapes during fricative consonant phonation

This study, based on the measurement of three-dimensional (3-D) vocal tract shapes during fricative consonant phonation, presents a realistic modeling of a human speech production system. The 3-D shapes of a vocal tract and a dental crown were measured using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). A male subject was asked to produce the fricatives /s/ and /6/ while wearing a dental crown plate that c...
